There is no date fixed for the signing of the2017 budget yet, the Special Assistant to thePresident on National Assembly, Senator ItaEnang, has said.Acting President Yemi Osinbajo is expected toassent the document.Enang said consultations are still being heldon the budget."Further to several enquiries regarding actionon the 2017 Appropriation Bill by theExecutive, be please informed that Assent tosame is not yet scheduled as consultationsand engagements are ongoing," he toldPunch.It had earlier been reported that Osinbajowould sign the 2017 appropriation bill intolaw on Thursday, June 1.The reports quoted Enang as officiallyinforming the leadership of the NationalAssembly on Wednesday that the budgetwould be signed on Thursday.However, The Cable reports that thePresidency cancelled the budget. Initially, there was a controversy about whowould sign the budget, but Osinbajo'sspokesman, Laolu Akande, has since made itclear that the Acting President would assentthe document "when the time comes,everything is set, & he (Osinbajo) issatisfied."The budget was passed by the NationalAssembly on May 11, and delivered toOsinbajo on May 19.
