Kim Jong-Un North Korea leader oversees 'new' weapon system test: KCNA

North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un hasoverseen a test of a new anti-aircraft weaponsystem, state media said Sunday, amidmounting tensions in the region following aseries of missile tests by Pyongyang.Over the past few months, the young leaderhas overseen several military drills, includingthe test-firing of a medium-range ballisticmissile last Sunday, as Washington seeks toramp up pressure on Pyongyang to curb itsnuclear ambitions.The North's official Korean Central NewsAgency said Kim "watched the test of a new-type anti-aircraft guided weapon system",which was aimed at "detecting and strikingdifferent targets flying from any direction".KCNA did not give the exact date andlocation of the drill.Pyongyang first tested the new weaponsystem in April last year when some defectshad been discovered, but Kim said the latesttest verified that all glitches had been"perfectly overcome", KCNA said.The efficiency of the weapon system "todetect and track targets has remarkablyimproved and its hitting accuracy has alsoincreased" compared to last year, the youngleader was quoted as saying.Expressing his satisfaction, Kim said: "(It)should be mass-produced to deploy in allover the country like forests so as tocompletely spoil the enemy's wild dream tocommand the air, boasting of air supremacyand weapon almighty."Tensions are high in the region over thenuclear-armed North's weapons ambitionsand its regular test-firing of ballistic missiles.The North has carried out two atomic testsand dozens of rocket firings since thebeginning of last year in its quest to developa missile capable of delivering a nuclearwarhead to the continental United States.
