Jose Mourinho just loves upsetting his former clubs, doesn’t he?
The Portuguese boss beat his former employers, Chelsea, to the signing of Romelu Lukaku last week and is even threatening to steal Tiemoue Bakayoko from under their noses.
And now, it looks as though it’s Real Madrid that Mourinho is making angry.
The two clubs have travelled to Los Angeles to take part in the International Champions Cup (ICC) - a pre-season tournament in America.
But there’s been some heated arguments between the two sides.
Heated argument between United and Madrid
According to the Telegraph, there has been an almighty row over the hotels and training pitches as they both seek to use the best.
The arguments have been so bad that organisers of the ICC had to intervene with them describing the situation as a “nightmare” to deal with.
The Telegragh’s report is backed up by the Mirror, The Sun and the Manchester Evening News with their very own reports, suggesting that something has definitely occurred between the two sides.
Both clubs have been training at UCLA but there were rows about who would use each pitch with United coming out on top by getting what is regarded the best surface.
And they were also fighting over which hotel they would be staying in.
Mourinho’s side landed the five-star Montage hotel - regarded as the best hotel in the area. Meanwhile, Zinedine Zidane and co. are a few minutes down the road at the Beverly Hills Hotel.
So it’s Manchester United 2-0 Real Madrid.
It all sounds pretty childish but managers consider pre-season to be crucial and the club plans each and every little detail to perfection. To have their plans ripped up by their former manager would have definitely have angered Real.
Previous rows
Of course, the bad relationship between United and Madrid has really heightened in recent years.
Sir Alex Ferguson famously once claimed he “wouldn’t sell that mob a virus” ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo’s 2009 switch between the two clubs.
Then, just last week, United decided to pull out of a massive move for Madrid striker Alvaro Morata when they landed Lukaku.
And then, of course, there is the David de Gea transfer saga.
The Spaniard was set to join the Bernabeu outfit in 2015 but, following a paperwork glitch, remained at United - much to Madrid’s anger.
The European champions may try and get revenge by trying to sign De Gea once again this summer but are yet to make their move.
One thing is for sure, their friendly in Santa Clara on July 23 will be interesting - as will their European Super Cup fixture on August 8.
