Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike » has
named his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi
among several persons who will be honoured
with the Grand Service Star of the state.
Amaechi and other nominees will be honoured
for their individual contributions to the
development of Rivers.
Other persons on the list of 29 people include
former presidents, Goodluck Jonathan and
Yakubu Gowon and late activist, Ken Saro-
Wiwa.
The awards ceremony will expectedly hold on
May 27 in Port Harcourt, the state capital,
according to Premium Times.
The governor’s decision to honour Amaechi
comes as a surprise because the two have
been at loggerheads for more than three
years.
Wike served as Amaechi’s Chief of Staff from
2007 to 2011, but the duo fell out after Wike
was appointed into Jonathan’s cabinet.
The two have been engaged in several verbal
wars, the latest being Wike’s allegation that
Amaechi had created a new cult in the state.
Amaechi said in response that Wike ‘had
gone mad again.’
Meanwhile, Amaechi is yet to respond to
Wike’s award and it’s not clear if he’ll accept
it.
