Lagos State on Tuesday inaugurated another electronic library now at Wahab Folawiyo Government Junior High School, Ikoyi.
The library, which is fully furnished with new furniture, books on various subjects and computer systems was donated by Huawei Nigeria Limited, an ICT solution provider company as part of its social responsibility initiatives towards education development in Lagos State and Nigeria by extension.
Declaring the facility open, the Special Adviser to the State Governor on Education, Mr. Obafela Bank-Olemoh said the library was part of the state government’s Project 350.
The Project 350, he explained, falls under the “Access to Knowledge” programme which includes the Adopt-A-Library project, a private-sector driven initiative to upgrade all the state-owned public and school libraries and the creation of Lagos Digital Library: an online platform that will serve as an education portal and a repository of knowledge for Lagos residents.
Reaffirming the state’s government determination to revolutionalise library services in the state, Bank-Olemoh thanked the donor and urged it to do more.
The Principal of the school, Mrs. Dominica Akukwe also expressed happiness over the development and promised that the school would put the facility into good use.
The representative of Huawei Nigeria at the event, who is also the Public Relations Manager for the company, Fang Feng, thanked the state government for providing a platform to contribute to the development of education in the state.
While noting that investment in children’s education is critical to the development of any society, she advised the students and their teachers to take advantage of the facility to enhance their knowledge and skills in their respective endeavours.
